April 3, 2021 – McKinstry’s Home Run

McKinstry’s home run
(his first in the Major League)
is inside the park.

Inspiration: Dodger’s 1st HR? Bizarre inside-the-parker

The opening series for the Dodgers is weird this year. On Opening Day, Bellinger hit a home run that ended up being an RBI single (and he was out). The next day, a cat decided to hang out on the field. And on April 3, Zach McKinstry hit the ball out of the park, but it was knocked back inside by Raimel Tapia. This allowed McKinstry to round all the bases for an inside-the-park home run. This was the first home run of his major league career.

April 1, 2021 – It’s Over The Fence!

It’s over the fence!
But Cody ran past Justin.
He’s out — a single.

Inspiration: It was Dodgers’ first 2021 HR … until it wasn’t

I’ve always enjoyed the unusual plays that occasionally happen in baseball, especially ones that can create a head scratching situation when it comes to marking what happened in the scorebook. For Opening Day 2021, Cody Bellinger hit the ball over the fence in what should have been a home run. Unfortunately, Justin Turner thought Raimel Tapia caught it in the outfield and headed back to first. Bellinger passed passed Turner, which put him out — according to Rule 7.08(h), any runner is out out if he “passes a preceding runner before such runner is out.”

So congratulations, Cody, for a great hit. Sorry you got robbed of a homer on Opening Day. At least they credited you with the RBI since Justin was allowed to score and a single since you reached first base before you passed him.
